OBSCAN

Conformance and security linter for Open Banking / FAPI APIs: validates OAuth flows, consent scopes, and PSD2 endpoints against the spec.

PyPI CI License: COCL 1.0 Suite

Fintech & Payments Security — PCI, fraud, AML, and payment rails.

pip install cognis-obscan
obscan scan . # → prioritized findings in seconds

🔎 Example output

Real, reproducible output from the tool — runs offline:

$ obscan-emit --version
obscan 0.1.0
$ obscan-emit --help
usage: obscan [-h] [--version] {lint} ...

OBSCAN — Open Banking / FAPI / PSD2 conformance linter for OpenAPI documents. Fails your CI on non-compliant OAuth, consent scope and PSD2 endpoint definitions.

positional arguments:
  {lint}
    lint lint an OpenAPI document for Open Banking / FAPI conformance

options:
  -h, --help show this help message and exit
  --version show program's version number and exit

examples:
  obscan lint openapi.json
  obscan lint openapi.json --format json | jq .
  obscan lint openapi.json --fail-on warning

Blocks above are real obscan output — reproduce them from a clone.

Sample result format (illustrative values — run on your own data for real findings):

Usage — step by step

obscan is an Open Banking / FAPI / PSD2 conformance linter for OpenAPI documents. Console script: obscan.

  1. Install from a clone:
    pip install -e .

  2. Lint an OpenAPI JSON document:
    obscan lint openapi.json

  3. Choose what fails the run — by default only error findings fail; tighten it:
    obscan lint openapi.json --fail-on warning

  4. Read the output--format json for CI pipelines:
    obscan lint openapi.json --format json | jq '.'

    Exit codes: 0 clean at/above threshold, 1 findings at/above threshold, 2 input error.
  5. Automate in CI — enforce FAPI conformance on every spec change:
    - run: pip install -e .
    - run: obscan lint api/openapi.json --fail-on error

Why obscan?

FAPI/PSD2 conformance testing is locked behind heavyweight vendor suites; a fast self-hostable CLI that fails CI on a non-compliant consent flow is catnip for fintech platform teams.

obscan is single-purpose, scriptable, and self-hostable: point it at a target, get prioritized results in the format your workflow already speaks (table · JSON · SARIF), gate CI on it, and let agents drive it over MCP.

Features

  • ✅ Load Document
  • ✅ Rule Oauth Present
  • ✅ Rule No Implicit Grant
  • ✅ Rule Authorization Code Used
  • ✅ Rule Https Tokens
  • ✅ Rule Consent Scopes
  • ✅ Rule Operations Secured
  • ✅ Rule Psd2 Coverage
  • ✅ Runs on Linux/macOS/Windows · Docker · devcontainer
  • ✅ Ports in Python, JavaScript, Go, and Rust (ports/)

Quick start

pip install cognis-obscan
obscan --version
obscan scan . # scan current project
obscan scan . --format json         # machine-readable
obscan scan . --fail-on high # CI gate (non-zero exit)

Example

$ obscan scan .
  [HIGH    ] OBS-001  example finding             (./src/app.py)
  [MEDIUM  ] OBS-002  another signal              (./config.yaml)

Use it from any AI stack

obscan is interoperable with every popular way of using AI:

  • MCP serverobscan mcp (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Cognis.Studio, uncensored-fleet)
  • OpenAI-compatible / JSON — pipe obscan scan . --format json into any agent or LLM
  • LangChain · CrewAI · AutoGen · LlamaIndex — wrap the CLI/JSON as a tool in one line
  • CI / scripts — exit codes + SARIF for non-AI pipelines

How it compares

Cognis obscan OpenAPI Spectral
Self-hostable, no account varies
Single command, zero config ⚠️
JSON + SARIF for CI varies
MCP-native (AI agents)
Polyglot ports (JS/Go/Rust)
Open license ✅ COCL varies

Built in the spirit of OpenAPI Spectral / FAPI conformance suite, re-framed the Cognis way. Missing a credit? Open a PR.

Integrations

Pipes into your stack: SARIF for code-scanning, JSON for anything, an MCP server (obscan mcp) for AI agents, and a webhook forwarder for SIEM/Slack/Jira. See docs/INTEGRATIONS.md.
